About Karen Dunkason
I am a Dog Photographer in Hampshire. Dogs have been at the centre of my life for over 30 years — through ownership, training, competition and a deep understanding of behaviour.
Photography became a natural extension of that journey. What sets my work apart isn’t just the final image, it’s how those images are created.
Not every dog is confident in new environments. Some are nervous, reactive or easily overwhelmed. Rather than expecting dogs to adapt to the photoshoot, I adapt the photoshoot to the dog. I have private land in the beautiful New Forest for dogs that are worried or overwhelmed with distractions.
With a background in dog training in Hampshire and hands-on experience with a wide range of temperaments, I work by reading body language, adjusting pace and building trust.
Clients often come to me because they’ve been told their dog is ‘too difficult’. Those are exactly the dogs I specialise in.
When you remove pressure and expectations, you capture something far more meaningful: honesty, personality and connection.
“Karen took some beautiful action shots of my Cavapoo Ember recently. She’s really patient, good fun and knew just how to get the best out of Ember and create an instant bond with her!”

In February 2026 Karen was delighted to receive honorary life membership of the Photographers Bar in the Category of 'Pets' from the Guild of Photographers, having submitted strong images consistently throughout the year in a competition judged in accordance with national scoring criteria. This is a distinction that is difficult to achieve. The award was previously achieved in 2024.
